Gina Kim

Inspired by her background in textile print design and her cultural disconnect as a second-generation immigrant, Gina creates bold, colorful works influenced by Dutch American folk art, Chinese artists, and literati painters of Korea. Her inner world guides her pieces; she crafts in a style that verges on the representational and emotional aspects of existence.

Gina’s artwork creates a safe space for her to record and process the mono no aware, the empathy for the impermanence of life, that in mainstream culture is often seen as oversensitivity. Her work has appeared in several cities, including Philadelphia. Her most recent mural, We Dreamt an Orchard This Way, was designed in partnership with the Mayor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs and the Managing Director’s Office.
